She got her first typewriter when she was five years old, drew a strangely accurate pterodactyl at six years old (sadly, the drawing has not survived), and as a teenager, one of her paintings was accidentally hung upside down in a student art show. Cate works in a variety of visual media – oil, watercolor, and gouache paint; pen and ink; and graphite. To see her portfolio, click here. Cate has published two novels – Tempus House, a magical realism story; and The King Tree, a partly true story written for children. Cate is also a fan of fiber and needle arts. She enjoys embroidery, cross stitch, knitting, and crochet. Cate has degrees in journalism, creative writing, and library science.
